Some Bunny Loves Langley on Whidbey Island

Bunnies of Langley

Langley Map
Bluffs, marinas, whales, mystery weekends, Callahan’s Firehouse glass blowing studio, and Djangofest are some of what you will find in the delightful village of Langley on Whidbey Island. A tiny park on the waterfront side of the main shopping street has a bell to ring whenever whales are sighted. All that and bunnies too!

We paid a visit to the wonderful little Langley Whale Center, run by volunteers and founded by whale activist Howard Garrett and his equally activistic wife, Susan Berta. Howard launched the Lolita Campaign in 1995 and the Orca Network as it is known today, which promotes conservation through education and awareness. Along with efforts of colossal proportion to retire Lolita, who has been in captivity for 44 years, Howard played a big role in the creation of the documentary film Blackfish. Unfortunately we didn’t get to meet Howard, but our volunteer guide Wendy, his sister-in-law, was very kind and informative.  If you’re in the area, the Whale Center is a must-see.

More can be discovered through Langley’s calendar of events. From scenic walks to bird watching, we continue to find more things to do in lil Langley on the 55-mile long island of Whidbey.

In the meantime, enjoy my Langley Haikus.

Langley Criteria

*The criteria details are explained on the first post of this series.

Lodging
Langley Motel
526 Camano Ave

Rated 1 – 6 (high)
Cleanliness (floor, bathroom, bedding): 5
General Accommodations (comfort, space, service, amenities): 5.5
General Environs (location, quiet, nearby restaurants): 5

We certainly recommend the Langley Motel. Located only minutes (by walking) to downtown, our spacious room with views of the sound was clean and comfy. Cons: Super small bathroom, a broom closet, really. One would not want to be a large person and navigate that toilet. The queen bed was too firm for my liking.

Vegan Wanderlust in Langley

Cafe Langley
Mediterranen fare at Cafe Langley topped off our fun day. For me, Pasta Acropolis, and for Scott the Vegetarian Sampler, Greek-style. They were both delicious and the service was great, even though they were very busy the waitress was kind and attentive and answered our many questions.

Thrive in Freeland
Just minutes down the road is a vegan gluten-free haven for the organically inclined. Thrive Cafe run by the affable couple, Tom and Janice, is the offspring of their personal health backgrounds and continuing quests for a community of wellness. Their signature homemade health products are the super foods Greens Hornet Tonic Alchemy and Hurricane Raw Vegan Protein powders. Good and good for ya. We walked away with two gluten-free veggie sandwiches and flavorful, vegan, uber chocolaty chocolate chip cookie.
