54 Reasons I’m Vegan: Rainforests, Air, Water, Soil, Climate Change, Peace & Hunger (50-54)

This is it!

Of the 54 reasons I’m vegan, numbers 50-54 are some of the most vital: Rainforests, Air, Water, Peace, Climate Change, & World Hunger.

At the onset of this journey, I really had no idea where it would take me. Now that I’m at the conclusion, I’ve come up with several more reasons I’m vegan – like insects! Another day. Another post.

Reason #50: The Rainforests including all the inhabitants: people, plants, and wildlife

Eating meat contributes to the destruction of the rainforest
80% of the Amazon’s deforestation stems from cattle ranching. Read how the west’s appetite for beef is felling the Amazon here.

Reason #51: Air, Water, Soil (see large infographic below)

Animal ag impacts air, water, soil

Reason #52: Climate Change

This graphic pulls it all together – deforestation, climate change, water, soil, air, and climate change – animal agriculture has a deleterious impact on our environment.

Reason #53:
Peace

Veganism is a nonviolent practice

I have a goal. It is to live a peaceful existence. This is a challenge in a violent world. But three times a day I realize my goal of peace by what I place at the end of my fork.

“We cannot have peace among men whose hearts find delight in killing any living creature.”
~Rachel Carson

“World Peace begins in the kitchen.”
~Anonymous

Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.
~Albert Schweitzer,
French philosopher, physician, and musician (Nobel 1952)

Reason #54: World Hunger

From September 26-October 16 (World Food Day), I will be embarking upon a 21 Days for World Hunger journey. Similar to the journey (I called it a SOULjourn) in 2010 when I was writing for Conducive Chronicle, I’ll be researching and writing about how plants may be our best solution to the issue of world hunger. I’ll be doing this while eating a reduced calorie diet similar to those in the world living with hunger.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had a much better understanding of the meaning of abundance when I stopped eating animals and started embracing the limitless sense of well-being that arrives when living a life
that manifests peace simply by removing behaviors that cause harm.
~Kenda Swartz Pepper
It’s a wrap!
A veggie wrap. 🙂
